What are the latest trends in the use of leather for luxury furniture?

Dec 9, 2025

After several companies flattened their offerings onto bouclé fabric, which saw the prevalence of so-called "surefire mediocrity", leather is establishing itself in environments where the highest quality is sought. Bouclé, considered a guaranteed success for years, eventually proved to replicate only similar and boring environments which, in the long run, brought uniformity and monotony to Italian furniture.

Why is leather prized and appreciated?

  • Versatile material: Leather is extremely versatile and adapts to both elegant and formal contexts as well as more casual ones. Leather producers offer both classic options and increasingly creative solutions.
  • Sustainable material: More conscious consumers know that leather is a sustainable material par excellence. Being a by-product of the food industry, its use prevents it from being burned or disposed of at high social costs, thus contributing to greater respect for the environment.

Leather is fascinating

  • Natural material: Its natural origin gives it a unique charm.
  • Eternal material: Despite being a modern material, leather is incredibly durable.
  • Seductive material: Its intrinsic characteristics make it an attractive material.

Less processed leathers are considered the noblest, as they reveal all their natural characteristics, enhancing their beauty and uniqueness.

Use in residences, yachts, luxury cars, and high-end hospitality

On the other hand, genuine leather has always been used in the most refined environments and where the demand for quality is highest: prestigious residences, yachts, luxury cars, and hotels where comfort is paramount. Where the search for quality diminishes in the race for the lowest price, less noble materials are introduced which, whatever they may be called, ultimately contain a large amount of plastic and have decidedly low prices.
